Scranton, Pennsylvania – Telespond Senior Services is pleased to announce the appointment of Helen Schmid to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer, effective Monday, February 5, 2024.
In her new leadership role, Schmid will be responsible for ensuring that Telespond continues to fulfill its mission of providing life–enriching services and supports to older adults and their families on an individual and community–wide basis. Since 1974, Telespond has delivered programs designed to address social isolation, foster volunteerism, support family caregivers, and enhance the overall well–being of older adults by promoting independent, dignified aging.
“Helen has a proven track record of cultivating meaningful connections with community partners, colleagues, older adults and their families,” says Telespond Senior Services Board of Directors Chairperson Nancy Menapace. “With the organization celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, we are confident that under Helen’s leadership, Telespond will further expand its impact and relevance for older adults and their families throughout Northeastern PA.”
Schmid comes to Telespond from Bayada Home Health Care, where she effectively managed their non–profit home health business, helping its patients to live safely at home with comfort, independence, and dignity. Throughout her career, Schmid also served as Patient Engagement Coordinator for The Wright Center for Community Health and as a manager for CareGivers America. While at CareGivers America, she effectively led a team that included 150 home health aides and was built on a commitment to meet every patient’s care needs, regardless of age, diagnosis, or ability to pay for services.
Schmid holds a Master of Business Administration from Misericordia University, Dallas, PA; a Master of Fine Arts from Sarah Lawrence College, Bronxville, NY; and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY. She was a creator and panelist for “Conversations on DEI” webinars in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month and Juneteenth in 2023 and has volunteered with the Urban Promise Back to School Backpack Drive and the Commission on Economic Opportunity Food Bank.
“My dedication to serving older adults aligns seamlessly with Telespond’s mission and services,” says Schmid. “I believe that a well–supported and engaged workforce is integral to organizational success, and I am excited to begin my tenure as Telespond celebrates its 50th year by reflecting on the past and forging a new path forward while never losing sight of our commitment to ensure that older adults throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania can age in place with the dignity and respect they deserve.”
