Adult Day Center Attendant

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Attendant is responsible for providing personal care, supervision, and companionship to Dementia Care and Respite Services clients that reside in their own home, along with basic care and management of the home. The Attendant is directly responsible to the Director of Adult Day Care and In-home Personal Care Operations. The Attendant, while working at the Adult Day Care, receives daily supervision from the Site Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Will report and receive direction from Director of Adult Day Care and In-home Personal Care Operations.
  2. Working directly with the Activities Coordinator in the implementation of daily activities in order to ensure a smooth transition from health care tasks to recreational activities for the clients.
  3. Assist participants to, from activities. Be knowledgeable as to participants’ diet, especially those on special diets. Assist if any help is needed.
  4. Assisting participants in performing simple rehabilitative activities and exercises such as ambulation, use of wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and canes. Know correct way of assisting visually impaired patients.
  5. Know all participants and be aware of medical diagnosis, especially diabetes and epilepsy.
  6. Encourage interaction with participants, and participate in the same. Escort participants toMedical Areas, for example, therapy room. Assist or perform bathing and/or showering of
    participants who need help.
  7. Know and use proper lifting techniques, never lift alone.
  8. Report all unusual incidents to L.P.N. or Site Supervisor.
  9. Participate in recreational activities and programs when schedules permit, and assist Recreation Coordinator with:
    • Reality Orientation
    • Activities of Daily Living
    • One-to-One and Group Sessions
    • Independence – care of clothing and living areas
    • Shopping Trips (if applicable)
    • Picnics
    • Bus Rides, etc.
  10. Read and know procedures, notices, rules and regulations pertaining to Adult Day Care, table of organization, employees’ policy and procedure manual, and all other pertinent information.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Certified nurse’s aide or six (6) months geriatric experience.

2. Certified in first aid/cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

3. Accepts the policies and supports the objectives of this organization.

4 Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations.
