In-Home Attendant

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Attendant is responsible for providing personal care, supervision, and companionship to Dementia Care and Respite Services clients that reside in their own home, along with basic care and management of the home. The Attendant is directly responsible to the Director of Adult Day Care and In-home Personal Care Operations. The Attendant, while working at the Adult Day Care, receives daily supervision from the Site Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Assisting client with bathing, toileting, personal grooming and dressing.
2. Monitoring health status, and use of medication.
3. Assisting clients in performing simple rehabilitative activities and exercises such as ambulation, occupational, physical, and speech therapy.
4. Light meal preparation and assistance with feeding.
5. Reading, writing, reality orientation and assistance with hobbies and similar activities.
6. Companionship, conversation, supervision, and informal counseling for quality home management.
7. Provide the following activities: sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and cleaning bathroom and kitchen fixtures.
8. Provide basic shopping duties in order to obtain grocery and drug store items.
9. Provide other services directly related to this job description as directed by the Director of Adult Day Care and In-home Personal Care Operations including: Participating in in- service training, as required.
10. Report all unusual incidents to the Director of Adult Day Care and In-home Personal Care Operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Certified nurse’s aide or six (6) months geriatric experience.

2. Certified in first aid/cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

3. Accepts the policies and supports the objectives of this organization.

4. Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations.
